Tips on Dressing the Mother of the Bride/Groom
Since we get a lot of emails from both the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom, we've decided to write an article on tips for selecting their dresses.  After all, this is a big day for them too!
  • Once the bride and her bridesmaids have selected their dresses, both the mothers can start their own dress shopping.  (They should start their shopping as early as possible.)
  • Their style of dress will depend upon the formality of the wedding.  What do the bride's and the bridesmaids' dresses look like?
  • Ask the bride what style she would like to see you in.  Search through magazines and show her styles that you would prefer and get her input.
  • When choosing a color of dress, the mothers should not choose black, white, ivory or cream.  Try on different colors to see what looks best.  You do not have to choose the same color dress as the bridesmaids'.

  • They should choose a dress that compliments their figure and that they will feel most comfortable in.

  • Traditionally, the mother of the bride would select her dress first.  Then she would let the mother of the groom know what the dress looked like.  This way the mother of the groom could select a similar style.  Of course, nowadays, the mothers do not have to dress alike.  What one mother may be comfortable in, may not be comfortable for the other.

 Preserving Your Memories
Your wedding day will be one of the most memorable days of your life!  You'll want to capture every moment on film so you'll be able to enjoy those precious moments in years to come.  Here are a few helpful tips and suggestions for storing your wedding photographs and videos:
  • Make sure that you store your photos and videotapes away from direct sunlight.  This storage space should also maintain a moderate temperature with low humidity.
  • Be sure to remove the clip located on the back of your videotape.  This will prevent you from taping over it by mistake.
  • Store a duplicate videotape and your photo negatives in a fireproof box made especially for them.
  • Store your videotapes upright and in a case.  Also be sure to keep them away from any electronic equipment.

 Frequently Asked Question
Q: Do we need to have a receiving line?
A: If you are having more than 50 guests at your wedding, it's a good idea to have a receiving line.  This way each of your guests will be able to hug and congratulate the both of you.  You may also get to meet guests that you do not know (relatives, friends or co-workers from your fiancé/fiancée's side).  Once the reception begins, you may not have the time to meet and greet all your guests.

Honor Your Mother at Your Wedding.  Many brides are looking for a special way to honor their mothers at their wedding.  One special way to do this is to carry a special item such as a handkerchief or family bible as you are wed.  Another way to honor your mother is to present a flower from your bouquet to your mother during the processional and one to your new mother-in-law before the recessional.  Click for gifts for Mom and other special women.
