Wedding Invitation Trends

Written by Nancy Whalen of Creative Papers

Green, Green and green again! Seems to be the wedding invitation mantra and we are so happy as preserving the environment for future generations is something that we all think about and want to participate in! My sister and I try to make it a goal to work with socially conscious vendors.

Our fabulous Letterpress vendor uses only 100% pure cotton made in the USA. Reduce, reuse, recycle has been at the core of their business since inception in 1999 – it’s just a way of life!

Then there is the incredibly beautiful seeded, plantable wedding invitation line! This plantable paper is "tree-free" so that no trees were cut down to make this plantable paper. The base fiber is cotton or 100% post-consumer waste. And the paper is made with pure North American wildflower seeds by skilled papermakers paid a living wage in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When you choose plantable seed paper for a special invitation, favor or card, you're giving the lucky recipient a lasting memento of the event. As the flowers bloom in their garden, they'll remember you and the special day of which they were a part. You're spreading the gift of the garden to friends and family, thereby greening up our country, providing habitats for butterflies and planting seeds of beauty.

Another family owned and operated old-world style paper mill has been creating fine handcrafted paper products from recycled fibers for over 25 years! The dried flowers that are incorporated into the paper are incredible in beauty and color. Their newest Green Collection features Meant to Bee!! These stationery pieces blossom into perennial wildflowers, which attract and nurture the endangered honeybee! For a really cool and totally different favor, their Edible Expression line is priceless! They have different shapes that include tags that are tied on with a piece of raffia (one side of tag has planting instructions, the other side your personal message), made of 100% recycled cotton and fresh flowers, and also incorporating various combinations of birdseed! After use, they can be hung outside for our fine feathered friends to enjoy!

Pockets – not exactly “completely” green, but still very, very popular! Some of our better vendors are now producing a totally different style of pocket invitation! High end luxury, yet still organized!

Finally, newly introduced, our completely hand made, all green vendor has a pocket and it is beautiful; stylish, functional and totally earth friendly!
