Save the Dates

Over the past few years, Save the Dates have become increasingly popular for couples. If your wedding falls on a holiday, long weekend or is a destination wedding, a Save the Date is a must. If your wedding is during the summer or a school vacation week, you may want to consider including Save the Dates into your budget. The Save the Date will alert your guests to your wedding date which will deter potential guests from making alternate plans – ensuring they will be at your wedding! The "old fashioned" way of spreading the news will also work for many brides who did not budget save the dates or feel it is not necessary to send: ask each of your parents to contact several guests to get the word out on the wedding date.

Nancy Whalen of Creative Papers adds “Save the Dates are not for everyone.  However, if you’d like your guests to easily access all the information regarding your wedding; just include your wedding website address on the Save the Date, along with the relevant wedding information. This summer I happened upon an article that discussed a new wedding stationery trend, - “Thought You Should Know” cards; fabulous idea, if you don’t have a wedding website.”

Nancy confirms that for a destination wedding, whether it is Maine or the Caribbean, a Save the Date is a must so your guests can make their travel arrangements, etc.  Below are some new styles for the upcoming year:

Want to go Green? Don’t worry! There are options that do not harm the environment. You may print Save the Dates and Invitations on recycled paper or seeded paper. Several printing companies also use plant oils for ink. Be sure to check out our articles: Go Green Wedding Guide and Green Wedding Invitations for more info.

Nancy of Creative Papers encourages brides to be original "As they say “the world is your oyster”! You are able to reflect the theme and colors of your wedding, or your favorite bright bold colors, or maybe a fun save the date that doesn’t match anything, and even plantable seeded Save the Date cards.  Be daring, have fun, it’s your wedding!!!”
